Tom Myers joined Brackett & Ellis in 1998 after working as an Assistant District Attorney for five years and with an Arlington, Texas law firm for almost fifteen years. His practice consists of representing Texas school districts in all areas of school law, including construction, real estate, personnel, student discipline appeals, contract negotiations and drafting, appeals to the Commissioner of Education, Open Meetings Act, and Public Information Act issues, as well as litigation. He chaired a committee of school attorneys from the Texas Association of School Boards Council of School Attorneys which drafted form construction contract amendments for use by Texas school districts. He is also a frequent speaker at school law seminars. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in consumer law cases, primarily involving construction and insurance issues. Mr. Myers has also represented governmental entities and private citizens in a wide variety of criminal trials in both state and federal courts. He has argued appeals before the Texas Supreme Court, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Texas Courts of Appeal, and the United States Court of Appeals, 5th Circuit. Mr. Myers has been recognized by Texas Monthly as a "Texas Super Lawyer" in School and Education Law and by Fort Worth Magazine as a "Top Attorney" in School and Consumer Law.
