Tom Myers Receives the Kelly Frels Award

Brackett & Ellis is pleased to announce, Tom Myers has received the Kelly Frels Lifetime Achievement Award.

The School Law Section of the State Bar of Texas has recognized Mr. Myers with this award on July 22, 2022. The Kelly Frels Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes attorneys who have made outstanding contributions to the practice of school law and for their lifetime contributions to the School Law Section.


Mr. Myers began his career working as an Assistant District Attorney with the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office. During his years in civil practice,  he has represented boards of numerous independent school districts, charter schools, and private and independent schools and now has practiced in school law for over 25 years. He has successfully represented schools before the Texas Commissioner of Education as well as federal and state district and appellate courts.

Tom Myers is proud to still hold a Texas teaching certificate. He is a former Chairman of the Texas Association of School Boards’ Council of School Attorneys and has served as a Director on the State Bar School Law Section.  He chairs the Construction Contracts Committee of the Texas Association of School Boards, Council of School Attorneys, and was instrumental in drafting the model construction contract amendments used by school districts throughout the United States. 

He advises public and private educational entities in all aspects of school law including construction, real estate, personnel, student discipline appeals, open government, and employment and business contracts. He is a trained mediator and is a frequent speaker at state and national education conferences.
