Brackett & Ellis attorneys to present at Second Annual Law Seminar for Private, Independent & Religious Schools

February 19, 2016 – Brackett & Ellis, Texas Wesleyan University and the Education Law Association (ELA) Second Annual Law Seminar for Private, Independent & Religious Schools, Fort Worth, Texas

Lynn Rossi Scott will present “LGBTQ Issues in Private, Independent, and Religious Schools.”  She will discuss the standards applicable to private schools, and how they differ when private schools accept federal money. She will also address recommended steps for private and religious schools to take as they make their decisions related to their school environments.

Jim Whitton and Don North, Head of School of Trinity Valley School will present “The Attorney-Head of School Relationship.” While the Head of School and the School’s attorney are typically on the same side of any issue, there are times when they are not. The panelists will discuss effective communication and resolution, how the dynamic relationship works, and what to do when it does not work.

Tom Myers will present “Construction Challenges for Private, Independent, and Religious Schools.”  Tom has chaired a committee of school lawyers addressing construction contracts for over 10 years. He will share his insights as they relate to private schools.

The attorneys will also briefly address issues related to guns on campus during a Q&A session at the end of the seminar.
